In My Life..

Posted in Blogroll, digressions, interesting, lyrical, nostalgic, pensive on January 26, 2008 by mannar

Been 21 years into this worlds. I laughed, cried, wondered, was worried, was scared, was elated…… So many moments passed by, lost in space and time, in the corners of my heart and mind. Few memories I remember but many forgotten. A million people I’ve seen, they came and went. Longed for few, some sailed towards, while others drifted away and few still are. One day I will be gone too. Gone will be, all the ideas and images, the maps of the heart erased..I leave just the way i came to this world…

When i try to look at it all, I think the ‘I’ is not bigger any bigger than any love or friendship. All things we cherish are either the idea of someone or something. The number of hearts we touch and number of smiles we share mean more than all the achievements. The element of Godliness lies so much in us that we fail to see it in any of it. With so many thing come and go.. None can afford to burden ourselves with things unsaid and undone. Wanna say a thing just tell it, wanna do something just do it, love somebody just go ahead. Our lives must definitely mean much more than indifference and hostility.

And to end this, A musical tribute to all the people and places involved in the times of my life.
I just want to say “I Love You All

Taare Zameen Par…

Posted in critcal, mannar, movies on January 20, 2008 by mannar

Just watched Taare Zameen Par. Its not the stars, but tears which rolled on the floor. I am usually a bad sob act to movies, but this movie didn’t waste a moment to make me shed a bucket and a half of tears. I personally could relate to myself, of what I saw in the movie. The cast, direction, music all were tuned to perfection. The best part of the movie was that it wasn’t as cliched as I expected it to be. However there were a couple of irritating over insensitive characters like the teachers and not to forget the father. The director failed to eliminate the Bolly Masala element to movie, a dramatic entry for Aamir before the interval proves the point. The teachers characters also were text book Bollywood style characters. The music though was excellent and expressive, the narration relied too much on it. The vocal interludes looks completely engineered to evoke tears and manipulate the emotions of the audience. Although the movie gets a bit preachy at times, it just about manages to get away it.

The movie had scuttled all the potential to be a truly international film, only if it had not been for few deliberate and unnecessary characters along with typical bollywoodisms. It could have done well to be an international classic. But nonetheless a good two hour worth spending.

It would be a 10/10 for a bollywood regular and a 7/10 for an international reviewer.

Feeling Pensive..

Memories are most often a strange thing, they never fail to surprise with all the potential they have got. Nostalgia is something I get sucked into with great consistency. The melancholy and pensiveness strikes so often that I end up contemplating and wondering if all the experiences are meant to be forgotten or to be cherished.

My life most often seems to be void of something, waiting for something to fill in. But every single time I end up realizing the answer just after the page is turned over. Be it my ever growing frustration of not having a girl friend or other silly things which bother me.

While listening to the RJ talk on the radio, I floated around his question of what would you do if you got to turn the clock a 10 year back. This brings me to think my school days and how much i was fascinated with this girl, only to learn eight years later that she was also greatly fond of me. A few times we gazed at each other for brief moments, rarely smiled and never talked. The only time i remember talking to her was me trying to start of a conversation by asking for something i really didn’t need. Funnily we never talked again. Though we don’t know much about each other, the thought of her doesn’t seem to escape my brain even now. No whereabouts, No phone numbers, No traces…

Just as they say ‘Memories are a good thing as long as you don’t have to deal with the past.’

Inheritence Of Loss

I just completed reading Anita Desai’s Booker winner Inheritance Of Loss, though not a kind of book one would skim back to back for hours together,to finish it. Its subtly satiric narration of a post-colonial India during 1980 . The story of a retired judge living a not so rosy life and couple of people associated to him in the backdrop of a scenic Kalimpong, a hill station in Himalayan foothill. The narration switches quickly between the first world and third world countries, exposing the stark differences and strangely revealing similarities between the lives we lead.

The most striking feature of the book is the description and the delineation of the characters which are often confused, excited, depressed with a melange of emotions, Just as any of us. The book is dirty remainder of our suffering from various contradictions and confusions of reality and idea of someone or something. It succeeds in exposing the reader to thought process and nuances in ones mind, often subconsciously overlooked. The narration constantly is lit by moral and practical arguments one had to go through oneself. On a different note it did teach me things which I already know (latent things). Despite all this the book is never burdened with serious stuff, for it was craftly woven with humour. One can plain read, laugh it all and forget, while you can also read between lines and relate to oneself and interestingly very often.

Read the book for its brilliant narration, subtle humour and its a masterpiece when it comes to details. Three cheers to Anita Desai for her well deserved Booker Prize.

Spiderman III- Alternative Story

After Being disappointed by Spidey’s Third offering of the series, I decided to have a story of my own in place of this one. Take a look at my version of Spiderman-The Third and suggest any changes, if you feel like…

—————————————

Peter Parker Feels confident of himself and decides to propose Mary Jane for Wedding, he enjoys all the adulation and respect of the New Yorkers. Peter Parker is no longer the guy he was at once(S-2). Now he is more confident, brash and a little ego creeps into his mind. More after receiving keys to the city in special ceremony and along with the new found glory. The fact that He is Spiderman gets too much into Peter parkers head. He capitulates on the fame game and kisses one of his rescues in a Spidey way. This is much to the discomfort of Mary Jane (who is struggling with her career as Broadway actress) and slowly the relation between them starts to strain.

Now harry starts from where he ended in part 2. Fresh with all the cool new gadgets and the suit, he seeks to avenge his fathers death, believing Pater Parker/Spidey is responsible to his death. Harry pushes for a fresh attack on Spidey, Spiderman’s experience in duels and superior acrobatic skills help him in over coming The New Goblin. How ever he saves the unconscious Goblin(Harry) from a fall, for him being his best friend.

A tiny meteor crashes from the sky with a Symbiote(a mysterious substance) attached to it. This Symbiote Attaches it self to Peter Parker’s Bike, which slowly makes way and attaches it self to Spider-man. The symbiote has mysterious property, it amplifies any physical and mental dimensions of the carrier. And Thats what it did to Spider man. His suit turn black and now he becomes more powerful, arrogant and is full of Vengeance. He inflicts heavy injuries(some times even kills) on all those Law breakers instead of simply handling them to police as he once did.

Paris Hilton & Geek Update

Posted in Blogroll on May 4, 2007 by mannar

Guys you Know why I am Happy?? Paris Hilton is all probability might have to stay in jail at least for a couple of months. Don’t know why, but the news to me was heart felt and was deeply satisfying. :P

And theres lot of action brewing over the net, microsoft is seriously pursuing to take over Yahoo! for a sum of 50 billion dollar.

The real shocker was the shut down of Yahoo! photos, which is likely to be announced officially sometime now. Thats some bad news…really bad new..

And Now this is news….funny to say the least…The Digg team deleted a story that linked to the decryption key for HD DVDs after receiving a take down demand and all hell broke loose. More stories appeared and were deleted, and users posting the stories were suspended. That just got the Digg community fired up, and soon the entire Digg home page was filled with stories containing the decryption key. The users had taken control of the site, and unless Digg went into wholesale deletion mode and suspended a large portion of their users, there was absolutely nothing they could do to stop it.

Microsoft reboots Web, with the launch of Microsoft Silverlight, which is much superior FLASH equivalent. Seems like its some good news for flash haters. And check out the review of Silverlight from Techcrunch. If you have patience just check out the capabilities of Silverlight from the site, they were really impressive.

Yahoo! Messenger team finally felt the need for a browser based Web messenger. So all those who curse their fire walled office servers, have reason to rejoice. Here comes the Yahoo! Web Messenger. And here is the official announcement.

Its exam time. I am done with One while five more to come. Exams mean late sleepless nights, those anxious hours, phone calls inquiring about the progress of your mates, whatever be the answer you can be sure, they lie anyway. And finally preparing for the exams, few choose to sincerely study, while other prepare to cheat.
Preparing to cheat is not as easy as it seems, for sometimes it might be more tedious than learn stuff. This in fact is quite interesting, the ways and means usually the student community adopt to cheat.

What of me remains?

Posted in digressions, mannar, pensive, rant on April 27, 2007 by mannar

We all would love to think we are special, but in reality, much to my annoyance it pains me..because “I am plain ordinary and insignificant” ..Some day I will be dead and burnt if i dont burn,i will be buried and will lay rotten. What in me remains? or rather What of me remains?

We all are tagged with My Perspective, My Ideas, My feelings, My this and My that, but we are all lesser mortals. Musicians and writers they do it so effectively, they get to channelize and convey them so effectively. I mean how do they do it? Do lines come out of their pens just like that? Or do they try hard to make lines and sentences which are not just cool but also mean deep.

College Curry

Posted in light hearted, mannar on April 12, 2007 by mannar

What was i up to for the last one year?

I did everything possible other than studies..Last semester I was working for our college fest ‘CARPE DIEM’, JAL a Pakistani band, Indian idol Runner-up Karunya and DJ Sukethu performed at our collage. It was grand success with a crowd turn out of 20,000.

But planning the event itself is a major hurdle. Deciding the bands and then zeroing on one of them, co-ordinating with them to see if they perform on the dates available, planning the campaigning routes and the dates. Dealing with too many Ifs n But scenarios, like “What if it rains?”, “What if the power is down?”, “What if there is a security problem?”, “What if an emergency?”.

Thinking of alternatives then making back up plans, as if that’s not enough we had to design the posters, the teasers, putting up the web site, running around police stations to seek permissions for the event, getting quotations for infrastructure and security, weighing the best ones, negotiating the deals. Getting hotel accommodation, transport, flight tickets for the bands and getting the tickets, posters, hoardings printed, the publicity work and finally selling tickets. I could simply go on for an another 20 lines. Now i really wonder how we could manage it all. But somehow we just did it. It was one helluva of an experience.

There they go JAL at C.B.I.T (And excuse for the bad quality of video and audio, but this is all i could get in youtube)

And then again back to the boring exams and done, the first semester was over. Didnt even realize when it started, but ended too quickly.
Come second semester, ragging time it was. Though the intensity of ragging considerably came down, it was more of a general interaction. The stupidest thing is any one who even tried talking to the juniors were booked for ragging, in fact i had a close shave, i just escaped from being suspended for a week or so.

This brings me to remind me of our ragging days as a junior. Our journey to the campus was a one hour journey so that was when we got ragged the most. I was supposed to to sell cheap candies(10 if i rightly remember) at outrageously high price, little did the seniors care, for they were only bothered to put us in a tight spot. Some how i persuaded one of my friend to buy all of them, and the one who told me to do it was quite annoyed because i did it with ease. Then he wanted me to buy them back and sell them to 10 different people.

And i was even made to dance around one of the cylindrical steel columns in the bus imagining myself to be a pole dancer. And rest all juniors turned into DJs and singers for my act. Most often we were asked to recite some sexually implicative limericks and parody popular movie scenes and dialogues they asked rather ordered to sing songs with altered tunes..

One of my most memorable ragging incidents was when i had to hold up the bus with a drafter. It was stupid hilarious. And my most tedious ragging incident was when i was supposed to find the perimeter of the basket ball court with a pen. Mannar being the smart guy that he always was, after pretending to measure the whole court’s perimeter, I arbitrarily told some random number. The seniors were even smarter, they exactly knew how many pens would make a perimeter of the BB court, cos they themselves had to do it when they were juniors. i was made to measure again. Funny ain’t it.

Things these days are quite different from what they were, the college authorities were strictly resolved to curb ragging. Though ragging happened, but not as much as we had to. Im sure junior must have missed quite a few memorable moments. Then we had some really great interaction sessions specially with those pretty junior girls and made quite a few good friends. Fresher’s Party was what every junior was waiting for and finally i did happen in the last week of last month. And i designed a really funny invitation card and this is supposedly the best invitation card amongs all the braches in the college.

The party was great, just great..We usually have Couple Dances,Rapidfire Rounds and other stupid games for the Juniors based which we usually give away titles like Mr.Fresher, Ms.Fresher,Me.Cool,Mr And Ms Quick Feet etc. And we also have a rose round in which the guys give roses to the girls of their choice and similarly the girls tag a tiny heart to the guys of their choice. And the one with most hearts will be titled King of hearts and similarly Queen Of roses for the girls..

The party was even more rocking, coz i got maximum number of hearts again(I was King Of Hearts as a Junior)..technically i was KoH again, but they don’t title Seniors :(

Since I’m blogging after a looong time, have so many things to tell at the same time. Hope i didn’t bore you guys with my college stuff.

Thanks For The read anyway..
